Inspiring Insights from Sisters Keepers First Roundtable

At Sisters Keepers, our commitment to empowering young black girls remains steadfast, and we are excited to share an update with our beloved community. In March, we hosted a thought-provoking roundtable discussion that brought together 38 incredible women from diverse corners of the world.

Fostering connections

This event served as a platform for fostering connections, exploring partnerships, and discussing strategies to uplift young black girls and nurture the next generation of leaders. Let's dive into the highlights of this inspiring gathering.

To kick off the roundtable discussion, our very own Violet Pearson introduced Sisters Keepers, emphasising our mission to create a vibrant community of women working together to raise the next generation of black female leaders. She passionately shared the values that drive our organisation and expressed our gratitude for the unwavering support from our community.

Following Violet’s Introduction, we had the honour of inviting Ade Adenekan, who runs the STEM Initiative for Girls, which operates in Nigeria. Ade shed light on the vital work the initiative is doing to encourage young girls to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The partnership between STEM Initiative for Girls and Sisters Keepers aims to provide mentorship opportunities, educational resources, and a supportive network for aspiring young black girls in STEM. “ We are realising that it’s not all about Mathematics, but mentoring is also very important. We expect that the young black girls in Nigeria will excel and we will have leaders among them.” Ade said.

Our Mentoring models

During the roundtable discussion, we delved into the various mentoring models available for those interested in becoming mentors. Recognizing the transformative power of mentorship, we discussed different approaches, including one-on-one Mentoring, 1-to-Many Mentoring, and Flex Mentoring. These models offer flexibility and cater to the unique needs and preferences of both mentors and mentees.

To gauge the interest and engagement of the participants, we concluded the discussion with a survey. We are thrilled to share that the results were overwhelmingly positive. An impressive 84% of those present expressed their interest in becoming mentors, eager to contribute their time, knowledge, and expertise to support young black girls. Additionally, 16% indicated their desire to learn more about Sisters Keepers, demonstrating the potential for expanding our community and impact.

Empowering our black girls

The success of this roundtable discussion fills us with gratitude and renewed determination to continue empowering young black girls. We are thrilled to witness the passion and commitment displayed by our participants, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary resources and opportunities to thrive.

The roundtable discussion held in March was a resounding success, showcasing the power of collaboration and the collective determination of African women to uplift and empower young black girls. Sisters Keepers remains dedicated to providing support, mentorship, and resources to foster the growth and success of young black girls worldwide. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the participants who made this event a memorable one and invite our audience to join us on this empowering journey.

Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to engage with Sisters Keepers as we continue working towards a brighter future for the next generation of black female leaders.

With Gratitude,
