The Girls In the Lead (GILD) Community Excellence Awards, an initiative under Sisters Keepers, is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating, and elevating young black girls aged 12-18 who are passionate about making a significant impact in their communities.

Assessment criteria
Applicants will be categorized into two distinct age groups to ensure a level playing field:
- Group A: Ages 12-15
- Group B: Ages 16-18
Applications will be evaluated based on the following key areas:
Leadership: How has the applicant demonstrated leadership qualities in their community initiative? This includes the ability to inspire others, take initiative, and drive a project to completion.
Creativity: How innovative and unique is the applicant's approach to addressing community challenges? We're looking for out-of-the-box thinkers who bring fresh perspectives and solutions.
Community Service Impact: What tangible impact has the applicant's community service or project had? This could be measured in terms of people-helped issues addressed, or any other positive change brought about by the initiative.

The awards are open to young black girls aged 12-18 who have initiated or been actively involved in a community project. The applicant should be a self-starter, founder, or pioneer of an initiative and eager to engage with mentors.

The application portal is open. Interested participants can submit their applications through the portal, providing details about their community initiative, personal achievements, and vision for the future.

The program recognizes a range of community causes, including Education, Health and Wellness, Environment and Sustainability, Safety and Security, and Equity and Justice. Each cause has its own set of criteria and objectives, which are detailed in the "Community Causes" section.

hroughout the application process, participants will have access to group mentoring sessions. These sessions will cover various topics, from application guidance to project design and social media campaigning. Mentors will provide feedback, insights, and support to ensure participants present their initiatives effectively.

Shortlisted candidates will have their community initiatives showcased on the Mighty Network Community Channel for public voting. Community members can vote for their favourite initiatives. The combined scores from public voting and the expert panel's evaluation will determine the final winners.

There will be Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards for each age group (12-15, 16-18). The total award value is capped at $5000 for all awards. Apart from monetary awards, winners will receive media recognition, access to educational resources, ongoing mentoring, technology tools, and other valuable prizes.

The virtual award ceremony will be held in May 2024. It will be hosted in our Mighty Networks community and will feature keynote speakers, participant showcases, award announcements, special performances, and interactive segments.
