Sisters Keepers

We are

A community of women, working together to raise the next generation of black female leaders.

We believe in the power of community and our role as caretakers of the next generation of leaders.

Our goal is to serve as a springboard for black girls and women to envision, embrace and achieve success.

We believe that a world with empowered black girls isn’t just a better world for black women, but for everyone. Our mission is to ignite a spark in the hearts of young black girls, empowering them to transform their communities and the world. By providing the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed, we will unleash their incredible potential and help them to become changemakers.

About

Our History

We are a community of women passionate about improving the lives of at-risk black girls, and women and advancing women's leadership.

We understand that raising the next generation of black female leaders takes a village and we’ve rolled up our sleeves to get the work done, as our world depends on it.

Sisters Keepers' vision was ignited many years ago, in response to a spate of femicides and sexual assaults of black women. What began as a series of marches and protests became a network of women supporting each other.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, 70 out of every 1,000 teen girls between ages 15 and 19 become pregnant.

Additionally, many young black girls aged 12-18 are at risk of becoming homeless, addicted, pregnant, sexually assaulted, or worse, killed because of systemic prejudice.

It's no secret that black young girls face significant challenges when it comes to accessing resources and opportunities that can help them break free from poverty, discrimination, and abuse.

The work we're doing is essential, and it can't be done by one organization or individual.

We need mission-focused organizations to co-design programs and solutions that make a difference in the lives of black girls.

Let's work together to create a future where every black girl can reach her full potential. Join us in our mission to transform the lives of young black girls.

Our Values

Theory of Change

Our

Sisters Keepers partners with local organizations with the commitment and passion to support young girls in their communities.

Over the next three years, we plan to launch more programs and expand to additional worldwide. We partner with organizations and schools to provide a variety of programs and resources that support the academic, personal, and professional development of black girls. In addition to these, we also provide mentoring support and are advocates for policy and systemic changes that will improve the lives and opportunities of black girls. We believe that true empowerment comes from not only providing support but also working to address the root causes of inequality.
